Don’t feel bad. I had no idea either until I heard him share it in his interview for his family legacy video.
The fact is there is so much we don’t know about our parents, grandparents and even ourselves.
But guess who does? That’s right. Your mother and father. There is so much they know. All we have to do is ask. And when better than right now.
Just think, in another 20 years, what will your grandkids know about your parents and their lives?
I find it upsetting, just thinking about it.
You don't need to do it this way
Last year, I took a day off from work, and spent 4 hours interviewing my dad on video. By the end, we were both in tears. As much as it was sad to reflect on those that are no longer with us, these were tears of joy, knowing that we had created something special, a video archive of my dad’s life that will outlive us both.
The good news is it doesn’t have to be a big production. I created Remote Legacy Video to provide an easy and affordable way to create family legacy videos remotely that doesn’t require a video crew.
What stories do you want to remember?
It is scary times right now with the Coronavirus. Our parents are the greatest at risk. It has never been more critical to take action and do something. Of course, you can create your own legacy videos of your parents if you have the time, resources and skills but unfortunately most never do.
I am so grateful to have done this because my brothers and I have learned so much more about our dad and family that would have been lost otherwise.
When you lose a parent, not only do you lose their stories but you lose their stories of YOU.
